Enhanced Box Scores

Even a comically horrible experience at Marlins Park (details eventually) can’t bring me down when the Cubs win their season opener. I’m smiling, even as my foot throbs.

From the first pitch, things looked good for the Cubs, as Ian Happ did it again – seriously – launching a dinger on the first pitch of MLB’s season, and making this happen:

That’s a good man right there.

Meanwhile, the Cubs built out an early lead thanks to wildness by Jose Urena, but Jon Lester wasn’t able to make the early lead stand up, eventually needing Steve Cishek to enter the game in the 4th inning to clean things up. More on that soon.

Fortunately, the Cubs’ bats didn’t stop, including a close-the-door two-out, two-strike, pinch-hit two-run double for Tommy La Stella in the 7th. The Cubs got three homers on the day (Happ, Anthony Rizzo, and Kyle Schwarber), and the bullpen made it work.

Full box score.
