Albert Almora Gets the Cubs on the Board With His Second Homer of the Year!

Chicago Cubs Highlights

Although the Braves started a right-hander, Julio Teheran, with traditional lefty/right splits both for his career and this season today, Albert Almora got the nod in center field (as opposed to his usual starts against left-handers and reverse-split righties).

And it paid off rather quickly, as he launched his second home run of the season – a two-out, two-run shot scoring Kyle Schwarber – in the bottom of the second inning.

Take a look:

According to Statcast, that ball traveled just 377 feet and left the bat at just 95 MPH, but thanks to a 23 degree launch angle, that was enough to get it out.

Sadly, the Braves answered back with a two-run Tyler Flowers homer in the top of the third, but for a brief period of time, Almora’s homer gave the Cubs the lead.

He’s now slashing .287/.345/.416 on the year, and has been showing some improvements against righties, which is very good news.
