Well, it’s a rubber match. Here’s how the Cubs will line up for today’s finale against the Giants.
Chicago Cubs Lineup:
- Albert Almora Jr., CF
- Javy Baez, 2B
- Kris Bryant, 3B
- Anthony Rizzo, 1B
- Willson Contreras, C
- Kyle Schwarber, LF
- Addison Russell, SS
- Jason Heyward, RF
- Tyler Chatwood, P
Although the Giants left-hander, Ty Blach, is a lot tougher against lefties (.302 wOBA) than righties (.344 wOBA) this season – a split that is far more pronounced for his career – Joe Maddon is keeping Kyle Schwarber and Jason Heyward in the lineup this evening.
Frankly, Schwarber has already done more than enough to prove he’s worthy of starting almost every single day (113 wRC+ against lefties with a 20% walk rate), while Heyward, well, is in there for his defense, I suppose.
At his age, Ben Zobrist can’t and won’t start every day and you’re not, not starting Albert Almora against a lefty, so Ian Happ is the odd man out. There’s almost always going to be at least two of those guys on the bench, so it’s not much of a surprise.
Also notable: Javy Baez moves back up to the two-hole, batting behind Almora, for some more #AlMago action. Hopefully, those two can get the action started early and provide us with a nice holiday weekend win.
As usual, we’ll have your full Pre-Gamin’ closer to game time (7:08 CT).
