Love for Arrieta, Russell Updates, Northwestern Coming to Wrigley, and Other Bullets

Chicago Cubs News

I have to take the two big kids to the doctor today for wellness checks, which will include some shots for The Little Boy. So that’s gonna be fun.

  • And a thanks right back, Jake:

  • We’ll have more on the particulars of Kyle Hendricks’ rough outing, but one thing just to confirm in case you hadn’t heard: that really weird pitch was not the result of an injury, but instead was because Hendricks perceived a cross-up with Willson Contreras (Tribune), and he had to follow through with the pitch to not balk.
  • Not looking forward to the Cubs having to face Aaron Nola tonight being down 0-1 in this series already. Hopefully Jose Quintana has a great night, and the Cubs’ bats can sneak a few across against a very good pitcher.
  • There’s an update on Yu Darvish, but that will be coming in a separate post momentarily. Short version: He will need rehab starts. Stay tuned.
  • Meanwhile, Addison Russell got an MRI on his left middle finger, and we’ll just have to wait on those results (Cubs.com).
  • A big announcement yesterday, as the Cubs and Northwestern confirmed that Wildcat football is coming to Wrigley Field in two years:

  • You’ll note that the way the Cubs have made the third base line dugout and some of the seats removable means an actual full length, usable football field this time around. Not sure how they can promise such beautiful skies on November 7, but hey, technology.
  • Also, you gotta figure a bowl game will be next for Wrigley Field, which could generate some really nice revenue.
  • Arrieta’s return wasn’t the only one yesterday:

  • A little glove work for 5th rounder Andy Weber, whose bat is his calling card, but:

  • And a profile on the Cubs’ second round pick, outfielder Brennen Davis, proud owner of a goat:

  • Good job, young man:

  • Sometimes I look at air fryers on Amazon. I’ve never bought one, but I like the idea of them. I’m tempted. I am routinely very tempted. Bet you could fry up some serious spinach in one of those bad boys …
