Spring Training is full of fun, off-beat moments. Yes, it is baseball in the sense that the players are throwing and hitting and catching a baseball, but, you know … it’s also a little bit fake. Case in point? Will Ferrell played for a bunch of teams in Spring Training last year.
And you know what? That was fun, too.
So, yeah. I love me some silly Spring Training stories.
One of my favorites from last year was 88-year-old Rockies fantasy camp participant Lew Dunlap taking a high-and-tight fastball and then charging – well, aggressively pacing at – the mound:
Get ’em, Lew.
But if you thought that deterred the octogenarian from participating again this year, you’d be wrong. Lew is back for more! He’s going to do it all again at age 89. My guess is that this time, he’ll take one on the chin for his team, and then absolutely pummel the pitcher. And the video will be awesome.
What else could he do for an encore? Rob a homer? Grand slam bat flip? Break a bat over his head?
