What happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object? Well, I’m not sure I’m qualified to answer that, but I do remember thinking of it during the following moment.
The Scene: Javier Baez, one of the fastest, hardest swinging young players, steps up to bat against Aroldis Chapman, possibly the hardest throwing pitcher in the history of baseball.
The Result: Well, just take a look …
Baez swings himself completely off his feet and down to one knee. It’s pretty hilarious and potentially a little embarrassing. Still, if he would have connected with that pitch, I’m not sure the ball would have ever landed.
Also, Baez isn’t alone. The very same thing happened to Enrique Hernandez earlier in the season:
What both players fail to understand is with that much velocity, you don’t need to swing that hard. The pitch will carry anyway. Still, it provides us with some quality giggles and the hitters with a valuable lesson: don’t over-swing on Aroldis Chapman.
