On Opening Night 2016, reigning NL Cy Young award winner Jake Arrieta shut out the Los Angeles Angels 9-0 (with a little help from the rest of the Chicago Cubs), which was the team’s biggest Opening Day shut out ever.
But just down the street – well, about 93 miles down the street – the Los Angeles Dodgers shut out the San Diego Padres in even more historic fashion, while reminding us not to forget about a certain three time Cy Young award pitcher named Clayton Kershaw. Check it out:
It’s not hard to see why he’s the best in the game, is it? Every single batter walks away displaying one of two emotions: confusion or frustration. Kershaw is a truly special pitcher.
And, as it turns out, last night’s win over the Padres was a truly special win. The 15-0 final score was the largest shutout in Opening Day history. That’s one way to kick off the season.
