Some players make incredible, stretched-out catches, others put their body on the line for a play. Last night, Kevin Pillar did both:
Just an incredible job by Pillar, who is no stranger to incredible catches.
If he was further away from the wall, he would have probably just laid out for it (ya, I know, “just laid out”). But because the wall was approaching – or vice versa – Pillar had to leap and try to get back to his feet in time to avoid a head first collision.
Let’s see the three key moments, frame by frame:
The entire play happens so quickly that it’s hard to fully appreciate how high and far he leapt for the ball. The still above finally does it justice. After that:
Pillar attempts to return to Earth, and for a brief fleeting moment, he feels ground beneath his feet, until …
SPLAT!
Although he needed some help getting back to his feet, Pillar wound up being fine and continued playing for the rest of the game. It wasn’t the smoothest play in the word, but boy, was it an impressive one.
