I’d say you “couldn’t script it any better,” but that’s one of those cliches that falls apart under too much scrutiny. Because, in the case of Bryce Harper’s 100th career homer also being his first career grand slam, while that’s totally awesome, I could script it better.
It could have been a walk-off grand slam. It could have been a walk-off grand slam that clinched the NL East on the final day of the season.
It could have been a completely meaningless regular homer, but it landed in the arms of a gorilla in the stands, and everyone’s all, “OH MY GOD THERE’S A GORILLA IN THE STANDS! IS THIS HOW A PLANET OF THE APES-STYLE UPRISING BEGINS!?!? ALSO, CAN I HAVE THAT BALL, GORILLA DUDE?”
But. Setting that all aside, it’s still pretty awesome to see that Harper’s 100th homer, which came today against the Braves, was also his first career grand slam:

Harper – and pitcher Julio Teheran – knew that one was gone immediately, and he enjoyed the fruits of his labor (as he should).
Also worth noting: Harper will play this entire season at age 23. And he already has 100 homers. By the end of the season, he’ll probably have more than 130. He’s definitely doing his part to make baseball fun again.
