Rajai Davis went head-to-head in two rounds with the sun on Sunday (fancy that), but was knocked out both times.
On two fly balls hit to the outfield, Davis got into position, but ultimately missed both as he lost them in the sun. As a fan watching these plays, you’re simultaneously frustrated and understanding. These typically easy fly balls turn into extra bases due to something out of the fielder’s control.
Check out both plays below, and stick around for Davis’ explanation:

I like Davis’ postgame take on battling the sun and what you can do to mitigate some of that difficulty. “You got your spots where you want to play hitters, but when the sun’s out, you just gotta do what you gotta do … [even if that means] playing out of position to potentially catch the ball.”
No excuses, just plans to improve in the future. I like that. Maybe he can work on the old stick-the-glove-out-and-see-what-happens technique that Coco Crisp perfected.
And hey:Â later in the game, Davis redeemed himself, as fellow outfielder Marlon Byrd lost one in the sun and Davis bailed him out at the very last second.
