There are a lot of great things about minor league baseball, other than the heartbreaking prospects every team’s system pumps out (or doesn’t) year after year. Chief among them are the interesting jerseys, crazy promotions, and weird team names.
For example, the Binghamton Mets (Double-A affiliates of the New York Mets), are simultaneously promoting their team in an interesting way and setting themselves up for a weird team name by allowing fans to decide! Here are the existing options:
- Binghamton Bullheads
- Binghamton Gobblers
- Binghamton Rocking Horses
- Binghamton Rumble Ponies
- Binghamton Stud Muffins
- Binghamton Timber Jockeys
Okay, so my personal favorite is the Binghamton Rumble Ponies, but how about number five: The Stud Muffins. That’s a lot to live up to! I wonder if the Mets will start drafting with the “expected future looks” stat in mind.
Each team name comes with a short explanation underneath, and although there’s a primary reason unrelated to the hotness of the guys on the field, the Mets do actually recognize it:
“While tipping a cap to the players on the field, the ‘Stud Muffins”‘celebrates the collection of carousel horses belonging to Binghamtonians.”
You can vote for the team name here (and you don’t even have to be a fan!), I say we crash the site and bring the Stud Muffins into baseball!
