You know, I’ve never caught a home run ball in my entire life. I suppose that’s the case with most people, but I’ve never even gotten my hands on an official Major League Baseball. No foul balls, no tosses from the bullpen or after warmups, nothing.
That said, I’ve been close plenty of times. I’ve even been in those scrums where ten guys go in, and one comes out with baseball and about seven bruises. Basically, I’ve never been lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time and I’ve never been skilled/strong enough to follow through when I have been … and I have to currently functioning arms!
Which makes what this young man did all the more impressive …
Weird setup, I know, but it makes a bit more sense now doesn’t it? This young man, with a broken right arm, catches an opposite field home run off Brett Wallace and is utterly shocked that he did it. If I were his little league coach, I may have had the urge to shout “Use both hands!” but, well, you know.
