If you’ve ever played little league baseball – particularly on the left side of the infield – you’ve practiced/envisioned yourself performing the “Jeter jump-throw” at least once in your life a day. You know exactly what I’m talking about:
That’s about what I look like while doing it, yes?
Well, maybe no one is really Derek Jeter other than Derek Jeter, but Trevor Story sure gave it his best shot on Thursday night. Check out this series of fantastic defensive plays from the Rockies shortstop (with 18 home runs in June), including the classic Jeter jump-throw:

I’ll admit that I thought that Trevor Story was going to go away rather quickly, after his hot, but unexpected start to the season, but he’s still hanging around. Aside from the defense above and the 18 homers on the season already, Story is also slashing .263/.325/.544 on the season. That’s good fantastic for just about anyone, let alone a 23 year old rookie shortstop in June. The “6” position on the diamond is in a real renaissance right now, and Story is among its many artists.
