The baseball game/scoreboard proposal thing has always struck me as odd. I, for example, love baseball, but my girlfriend doesn’t have much patience for the sport (No, no, but it’s like a super quick 162 games). Because of that, I felt that the baseball stadium proposal was always going to be slightly more significant to one half of the couple than the other.
Then again, plenty of other girlfriends like baseball (Then why don’t you date one of them! – Maybe I will!) and there’s no better matchup than Yankees v. Red Sox, right? At least one Yankees’ fan thought so, because he brought his girlfriend there for the big moment.
When the time came, he asked her to stand up and look towards the scoreboard as he got down on one knee. Then, as he opened the box to expose the ring, it fell out … and bounced out of slight. Panic, dread and terror set in:

But his section would not abandon one of their own in his time of need, so everyone began looking. Ushers cleared people out, I even saw one lady looking inside her popcorn bucket – which is obviously quite silly … if it were going to be in concessions, it would obviously be at the bottom of a Cracker Jack box.
Luckily, after several minutes of searching, the ring turned up. Check out the ensuing outburst of joy and applause from the crowd:
It sure is a good thing she said, “Yes.”
All’s well that ends well. And, with the power of hindsight, I think it’s safe to say that this roller coaster of emotions created a much more memorable, exciting, and special moment than whatever would have happened in that other timeline.
