The Chicago Cubs have fallen down two games to one in their National League Championship Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers, with just four games to go. Among their biggest struggles, so far, has been a significant lack of offense from their regular-season hero and most unofficially official team captain in sports history, Anthony Rizzo.
In the top of the ninth inning of yesterday’s loss, for example, Rizzo notched just his second hit of the postseason – a slow roller to the right side of the infield. But even though the ball looked like it came off the bat at about 25 MPH, Rizzo swung like the dickens and exploded his bat to pieces in the process:

Like the announcer said, however, I think Rizzo will take whatever kind of hit he’s given, at this point, even at the expense of Batty McBatface (which is what he called the bat he just ritually sacrificed to the baseball gods for a trip to first base). The Cubs still have plenty of time to come back in the series, but Rizzo will have to find a bat that works and an approach that’s better for the Cubs to move on.
