Randy Johnson *Just Missed* Following Through on his “Called Shot” at the USC Alumni Game

Funny and Happy

Even though he once had an ERA north of 5.00, Randy Johnson is easily one of the greatest pitchers of all-time.

However, having essentially split his Major League time between the American League and National League, he also acquired a knack for hitting (well, not really, but narratively, this makes more sense).

In fact he hit in parts of over 600 different games during his 22-year-long career, amassing nearly 700 plate appearances in the process.

But during all of those games and all of those at-bats, Johnson managed to hit just one home run (September 19, 2003). Which is why it was a bit hilarious to see him calling his shot at the USC Alumni Game on Sunday …

… That is, until he nearly put one over the left-field fence:

Ultimately, Johnson put one over the left-fielder’s head and wound up with a long single – but daaaaaayum, he really got a hold of that one.

Maybe next year, he’ll be able to finish the job.
