Although amateur players make amazing catches all the time, I’d say that most catches typically fall into one of two buckets:
- The “amateurs” are legitimate, older players gearing up for a career in the Major Leagues (college players, high school seniors, etc).
- The catch wasn’t all that fantastic.
Well, the following play breaks that mold.
This young shortstop lays out for a pop-up – destined to land somewhere in the foul territory between the infield and outfield – and makes one of the more amazing catches I’ve ever seen for someone of (roughly) his age.

I mean, there’s a really long run, some perfect timing, full extension, and much more going into that catch and he absolutely nails it. So very impressive.
I think he probably also learned that jumping high means landing hard, but I’ll bet his adrenaline helped shake that off.
