The World Baseball Classic is clearly a competitive event, but I don’t think it quite has the gravitas of, say, the Major Leagues. Which means that for some players, it’s the perfect opportunity to try out some stuff you might not otherwise do in a professional game.
Take, for one example, Cuba’s Roel Santos. He did something close to a Happy Gilmore walk-up before a pitch today, but instead of trying to smash the living day lights out of it, he just blooped it into shallow left-center … for a double!
Whatever works!

The side angle does a great job of showing just how committed to this, the Santos had to be. After all, he starts running – crossing his legs in the process – before the pitch is even thrown:
