This was a long time coming for Joe Mauer:
Mauer entered Friday having won an AL MVP award, selected for six All-Star Games, played 825 games (1,615 overall), 3,466 plate appearances (6,920 overall), and hit 59 of his 131 home runs at home. Further, Mauer owned 46 go-ahead homers in his Major League career.
But none of those home runs had ever come in a walk-off situation until Friday … and all it took was the Red Sox battling back from a 3-1 deficit off closer Brandon Kintzler.
