While the battle for the best defensive center fielder may not be as sexy as the battle for the exit velocity king, it is almost as intense. For the most part Kevin Kiermaier has the battle locked down, but fellow Kevin and center fielder Kevin Pillar is right on his coat tails.
Tonight he went absolutely air-borne on a line-drive/fly ball out to left-center field for one of the best versions of this catch you’ll ever see.

Here it is again with his pitcher’s reaction (which I see as a combination of relief and utter disbelief):

Last year, Kiermaier (25) led Pillar (21) in defensive runs saved by four runs at the end of the season. However, Kiermaier didn’t have enough innings to qualify, so Pillar was technically the MLB leader in center field.
If these two keep it up, though, it could be a fun contest to watch in 2017.
