In his 20-year career, Carlos Beltran, now 40 years old, has played 2,213 games in the outfield. That’s 18,939.0 innings patrolling primarily right and center field.
But given his age and move to the American League, that number has begun to rise much more slowly than it has in the past. In fact, he hasn’t actually seen a defensive inning in the outfield since all the way back on May 16th and has only played 54.0 innings out there this season anyway.
Instead, he’s become the Astro’s designated hitter and is likely to remain in that role for the majority of this season. And as such, his formerly prolific outfield glove hasn’t seen much use in recent weeks, and has since been pronounced dead …
