Bryce Harper is not overrated.
Since breaking into the league back in 2012 – as a 19-year-old! – his 27.9 WAR is tenth best in baseball, one spot behind Miguel Cabrera and one spot ahead of Giancarlo Stanton. Moreover, he earned that 27.9 WAR in just 771 games. No one ahead of him on the rankings had fewer chances.
And, of course, if that’s not enough, he’s a five-time All-Star, former Rookie of the Year (2012), Silver Slugger (2015), and NL MVP (2015).
But fans are always gonna fan, and when one of the best players in baseball is on the other team, the “overrated” chants always pick up.
They’re just usually not answered so quickly:
1. Bryce Harper's up…
2. Someone yells "OVERRATED."
3. Bryce launches his SECOND HR of the game. pic.twitter.com/BTttlni4M2

Foot, meet mouth.
As you can see, that fan regretted his words almost immediately, as Harper launched not just his first, but his SECOND home run of the ball game. That’s too sweet to believe.
The Nationals went on to win that contest, and Harper is hitting .400/.429/1.000 on the season.
