Returning From Hiatus

BearWaveHello, and welcome back to Bleacher Nation’s Bears coverage.

Before things get started up again, I think it’s important to go over a few of the reasons behind the hiatus. It’s not something that was planned, and it’s certainly not something that I want to have happen again. The connection with readers is what drives Bleacher Nation, and I take that very seriously.

So it makes sense for me to pull back the curtain a bit; it’d be ridiculous for me to pop up on a Monday morning and act like it’s business as usual.

The site went on hiatus in mid-February; at that point, I’d been doing it since the beginning of December. I’d covered a pseudo-quarterback controversy, a wild playoff chase, and a crushingly disappointing end to the season. The site was growing, I was proud of the content, and I really enjoyed getting to know readers.

Sounds great, right? And it was. Except for that BN Bears is just a portion of my life, and I didn’t do a very good job of incorporating it into the rest of my life in a healthy way. I was trying to do too much, too soon.

It wasn’t sustainable, and something had to change. Sadly, when I evaluated where I was with my work-life balance (and even with my work-work balance), I felt the only thing to do was to step back from the site.

Having taken time away from it, and having discussed all of this with Brett, we think there are some ways that I can make it fit more realistically into my life. Out of necessity, it means less time committed to writing, and I certainly won’t be able to emulate what Brett does, which was my (foolish in retrospect) goal at the start.

But looking at it as a long-term venture, this is the only way that I can eventually make that happen.

Thanks to those of you who have asked about the site, and thanks for reading today. I’m looking forward to getting started again.
