I was listening to a local sports radio program yesterday and they were naming their Football Mount Rushmores(i.e. placing their favorite 4 players in the hypothetical monument) the host of this program chose Walter Payton, Jack Lambert, Ray Lewis...and I forgot his fourth choice, but you get the idea. I decided to hijack this idea and bring it to our board. Just to get the discussion rolling, here are a few of mine.

CUBS THAT I ACTUALLY SAW PLAY

RYNE SANDBERG, GREG MADDUX, BRUCE SUTTER, AND KERRY WOOD

HISTORICAL CUBS

ERNIE BANKS, BILLY WILLIAMS, FERGIE JENKINS AND SANDBERG (SORRY RONNIE FANS)

FAVORITE CUBS, WHO WEREN'T HALL OF FAMERS

RICK MONDAY, BOBBY MURCER, GARY MATHEWS AND LES LANCASTER

CUB EXECUTIVES AND MANAGERS

(CONSTRUCTION HAS BEEN DELAYED, NOW SHOOTING FOR 2017)

CUB BROADCASTERS

HARRY, JACK BRICKHOUSE, STEVE STONE, AND VINCE LLOYD

lots of potential for time wasting with this game...endless categories

If I am limited to 4: Ernie, Fergie, Ryno, Maddux.

That was actually very difficult.

Cubs I actually saw play:

Dawson, Maddux, Sandberg

& oh come on this is hard. I'm supposed to be working not thinking about this. It would have to be Grace, Wood, Derek Lee, Dunston, Sosa, Dempster. Heck I don't know I'm tempted to go all 80's & 90's on this one (the 80's were the dawning of my Cubdom). I guess the 4th would be Grace (how good would he have been if he would have stayed home at night).

Derrek Lee, Aramis Ramirez, Ryan Dempster ... Starlin Castro?

(I'm a youngin' (in comparison) who started paying close attention in 2007).

I have to go with Banks, Jenkins, Sandburg, and Sosa. Maddux had most of his success as a Brave. And even though Sosa's legacy is tarnished with the PED stuff and his Michael Jackson color now. What he did over his tenure as a Cub can't be matched. He was amazing for a 5 year period.

I was educated in Kentucky, so my math may be poor, but if we're saying ultimately 'Mount Rushmore' that makes four and only four. If that's the case, there's no way Billy Williams can't be on this list. The sentimental me would put Santo on there because of his lifelong dedication to the club. But if I'm going strictly on performance, this is mine:

Ryno
Billy Williams
Ernie Banks
Gabby Hartnett
