The Heat vs. The Thunder.
Two teams named after weather. As a few of you may remember, I have a bit of a silly obssession with team names. Instantly when this match-up was finalized, my first thought was that I doubt there has every been an "all-weather" final in any sport. Then I thought, how often has there ever been two teams in any finals from the same category?

The 1975 World Series between the Red Sox and the Reds(originally Red Stockings/Red Legs) is considered one of the all-time greats. Is it because we had an "all-footwear" battle?

Hence my theory; Instead of creating rivals based on geography, maybe some fresh new divisions based on team name categories would be more interesting.

ABILITY TO FLY DIVISION

Blue Jays
Cardinals
Orioles
Angels

AQUATIC DIVISION

Mariners
Marlins
Rays
Brewers( it's a stretch...liquid...)

BAD-ASS FIGHTER DIVISION

Pirates
Braves
Indians
Rangers

CLOTHING DIVISION

Reds
White Sox
Red Sox
A's ( 1970's uni's land them in this division)

LAME CITY OR REGIONAL BASED NAME DIVISION

Mets
Twins
Nationals
Phillies
Yankees

MYTHICAL, MYSTICAL, HARD TO DEFINE DIVISION

Astros
Dodgers
Padres
Royals
Giants

NATURE DIVISON

Cubs
Diamondbacks
Tigers
Rockies

May have to tinker with these after a season or two, still toying with the idea of trying to get the Royals, Padres and Angels in some sort of "Deity" division, also thought of a possible "Birds and Fish" division...

My brother and I were once sharing a beer or nine and decided it would be a great idea to replace all city / state / area names of professional sports teams with the word 'Butt'.

Butt Pirates
Butt Dodgers
Butt Heat
Butt Cavaliers
Butt Thunder

We lol'd -- a lot.

I suppose the Astros could be in the "ability to fly" division...

Awesome

Also, not to be a prick, but the Dodgers should be in the "lame reference to a city" division, since they were the trolley-dodgers for a while, referring to all the trolleys in NYC/Brooklyn

I am still adament that we move Miami to the AL so we can fully realize Back to the Future 2 and beat them in the 2015 WS.

I don't think MLB would let Tampa and Miami both be AL teams.

But if Tampa can't get a new stadium, they could move somewhere. Portland perhaps.

That would set up too many teams in the AL West. Someone would have to move, but Texas won't let Houston come back to the NL because they need some division games in their time zone for TV reasons.

So maybe the Twins move to the NL and join the Central.

And then the Pirates move into NL East, and Miami flips into AL.

And we're done. And it's all perfectly plausible (if we ignore the MLB rules that make moving franchises from league to league all but impossible).
