When the Chicago Cubs acquired Antonio Alfonseca and Matt Clement from the Florida Marlins in 2002, many fans (including me) saw it as the true turning point. It was the dawn of the modern, competitive Cubs. In that sense, Matt Clement will always hold a special place in the history of the Chicago Cubs.
Oh, and he had a bitchin’ goatee.
Sadly, Matt’s gonna hang up them spikes.
Clement was good for the Cubs from 2002-2004, and an All-Star with the Red Sox in 2005, but his career was derailed by injuries from 2006 on. He finishes his career with an 87-86 record and a 4.47 ERA. MLBTradeRumors.com.
May your chin bless and keep you, for all of your days.
