This game does give us an idea of how far scouting has come. The Mets think that you can get Rizzo out with changeups on the outer edge of the plate. That is not how he was making outs last year with San Diego: he was getting busted up and an in with decent fastballs. And, of course, this is not the "traditional" "lets see if the kid can hit a fastball" approach.

This suggests that the Mets game plan for Rizzo is based on stuff people saw this year in AAA.

was he getting out on changeups outside this year in AAA?

What is with our outfielders hopping to make catches. So odd.

That was purposeful, just looking for the time to use it.

I have no idea; moreover, it might not have been outside changeups, but something someone saw that made them think that he'd make outs there. For example, the fact that Rizzo has managed to adjust to inside fastballs might have made them think that he know is susceptible to the outside slow ball if they think that he's opening up too soon or pulling off to shorten his swing. I am sure that there are other mechanical explanations along these lines.

However, this is very different from how people were getting him out last year. Indeed, last year people were suggesting that Rizzo had a slow bat: so, outside and slow was the last thing that you'd throw him.

This is not the traditional approach, and there are not any other obvious explanations of which I can think.

There just going after him down and away. Pitcher just feels he can throw changes for strikes.Very traditional approach.
