Perhaps every generation feels the same way, but I genuinely think we are watching some of the best baseball players of all-time right now.
First, you have Mike Trout, whose start to his career is rivaled only by players like Ty Cobb and Mickey Mantle. Then there’s Clayton Kershaw, one of the most consistently dominating starting pitchers we’ve ever seen. The Yankees’ Aroldis Chapman is special in his own right, throwing over 100 MPH more than anyone in history. Then there’s Bryce Harper, Miguel Cabrera, and probably a few more I’ll leave out.
But the one guy that has been so good, so unique for a few years now is doing so quietly: Giancarlo Stanton. You all know who Stanton is, of course, as he’s one of the most prodigious power hitters alive. But it’s not just the number of home runs he hits that makes him unique, it’s the quality. Although we never used to have the capability to measure and record the exit velocity or sheer mammothness of home runs before the past few years, I doubt many would come close to Stanton.
Check out his latest:
There’s something awe-inspiring about his home runs. They either leave the park before you can put your eye on it, or they are these beautiful, towering, massive shots that require such skillful bat work (aka Batman’s 9-5 job) and prodigious power to achieve. He may not always have the most home runs in the league, but Stanton will certainly have the hardest hit baseballs.
