Steven Souza Jr. may have only gotten 251 Major League games under his belt, but he has already carved himself a niche in Washington Nationals lore.
We recently checked out the most extreme-ist home runs of the 2016 season, and while this one didn’t make the cut (because it happened in 2015), it would have likely been an honorable mention had we done it for 2015.

There are few things more exciting than a Little League home run, but this one stands out among the others. There are the elements of rain, slippery grass, a wet ball and a wild throw that add to this laugh out loud baseball moment – you can add a runner on base, to sweeten the pot. And to top it off, this all started with a bunt in front of the plate.

Oh, and there is also this element of revenge as Souza Jr. was playing in his first series in Washington, D.C., since being dealt to the Tampa Bay Rays the prior offseason.
Souza Jr. was once a source of joy for Nationals fans as a rookie in 2014, when he saved Jordan Zimmermann’s no-hitter with a diving catch in left field as a rookie. A defensive replacement for Ryan Zimmerman (no relation to Jordan) in left, Souza Jr. went all full-extension to snag a drive off the bat of Marlins outfielder Christian Yelich to preserve the no-hitter.

Baseball has a funny way of being cyclical, and Souza Jr. provided a nice reminder of that.
