Note: Wood and Johnson are strong possibilities to return next year; Ramirez has said he’ll exercise his right to become a free agent if the team picks up his $16 million contract option unless he’s offered a multi-year extension.

and that's if payroll stays the same.. we don't really know what it'll be next year.It's probably another 10 million or so for arbitration raises. ( I think the Cubs need to seriously look at extending Garza). Dempster's contract is either going to be a player option or he's going to re-sign for less. Even if they don't dump most of Zambrano and Soriano's contracts off the books, they still should have 30-40 million to play with this offseason.
