Edwin Jackson followed his season model – nibbling and struggling early, throwing a ton of pitches through the first couple innings, and then settling down – and the Cubs came back from a mild deficit to win it in the 9th on a Luis Valbuena homer. It was the second time in a week that Luis Valbuena hit a would-be-game-winning homer, and this one held up.
Carlos Marmol, apparently freshly re-installed as the closer, did Carlos Marmol-y things in the 9th inning, but struck out Giancarlo Stanton with two on base to end the game.
Huzzah.
Unrelatedly, it’s probably time to give Anthony Rizzo a day off.
