You’ve heard of “TOOTBLAN,” yes?
Yeah, you totally have. I know that, you know that, but just for everyone else’s sake, let me explain it further. TOOTBLAN is an acronym for “Thrown Out On The Basepaths Like A Nincompoop,” and it’s used to describe the scenario of a runner getting himself out, well, on the bases without a force-out.
Although we say it with the utmost respect and tongue-in-cheek love, getting yourself thrown out on the bases makes you a nincompoop. And when you’re down one run in the bottom of the ninth inning with the tying run 90 feet away and the winning run on first, well, it really, really, really shouldn’t happen.
And it especially shouldn’t happen to BOTH runners:
Yikes. A #DoubleTOOTBLAN to end the Mariners/Twins game this weekend.
That’s a rough one. I’m guessing quite a few expletives were yelled in the making of this play, and I’m not sure TOOTBLAN is a strong enough idea to rightfully describe the level of Nincompoopery displayed on this game-ender.
