The gap of time between when the Cubs acquired Henry Rodriguez and DL’d Zach Putnam, and when Rodriguez could be ready to pitch for the Cubs has come and gone. Ably filling that gap was lefty Brooks Raley, who didn’t even have to pick up a baseball.
Raley, who was called up because he was already on the 40-man roster and could be freely shuffled up and down from AAA, was shuffled back down to AAA today as the Cubs officially added big-armed Henry Rodriguez to the bullpen.
Rodriguez, 26, was acquired from the Nationals earlier in the week in a minor trade. You can read more about the acquisition here. The short version? Be ready for a huge fastball, and huge inconsistency.
