I know that they tell us to take any DSL stats with a grain of salt, but there are some intriguing one which we may or may not ever see make it above Boise.

1. RHSP Daury Torrez (19) 64 IP 1.25 ERA, .773 WHIP 4/48 BB/K. By the way, that BBK is not a typo. He's walked 4 guys all season, and 9 guys in his 2 year, 155 IP career. To put that into perspective, AA reliever Zach Rosscup walked 5 in 2.2 IP last night.

2. LHSP Carlos A. Rodriguez (17) 55 IP 1.80 ERA .945 WHIP 58/16 BB/K. Very impressive. All I can say is that his mother was ready to give birth to him andy day when I graduated high school in June of 2005. Old.

3. 3B Ronny Alcala (18) .315/.355/.477 5 HR 214/197 PA/AB I think he may have been a somewhat touted bonus baby coming in, but it's hard to keep track of international signings unless they're headliners.

4. SS Jenner Emeterio (19) .342/.437/.483 2 HR 144/120 PA/AB. One thing that our system has no shortage of it's high ceiling MI prospects. BTW, at the same level but a year younger, Gioskar Amaya sported a line of .282/.375/.353 1 HR and Marco Hernandez .286/.348/.388 1 HR, though each had twice the ABs as Emeterio. And 17 year old Starlin Castro had a .299/.371/.371 2 HR in 253 PA.

5. CL Francisco Carillo (22) 1.25 ERA 1.151 WHIP 28.2 IP 8/29 BB/K. Impressive enough numbers, but a 22 year old in the DSL is the equivalent of a 29 year old in AAA.

6. OF Jeffrey Baez (18) Not to be confused with the other J. Baez, .302/.392/.472 3 HR in his 2nd DSL season.

7. OF Kevin Encarnacion (20) .303/.444/.467. 5 HR. Seems to have slowed down a bit since his mnster start. Lately he has been pulled after a few ABs every game, so I'm not sure if that's injury related or defensive related what. 20 is old for a DSL kid, not quite 22, but it's still the equivalent of pretty much everyone we have in AAA. Still, he's made huge improvements in this his 3rd season. HIs 5 HRs top his career total of 2, though he seems t have been stuck at that number for quite some time. At his age, he should be bumped to Arizona, or even Boise ASAP if they think he has any future.

8a and 8b. I list them this way because they seem like essentially the same player, likely of the Tony Campana mold, but who knows: Bryan Flete (19) 179/148 PA/AB .318/.429/.439 0 HR 9 SB & Roberto Caro (18) 224/185 PA/AB .314/.417/.405 0 HR 8 SB

9. RHSP Alexander Sanatana (18) 51IP 2.98 ERA 1.091 WHIP 12/45 BB/K

10. LHSP/RP Jose Paulino (17) 12 games, 4 GS 50 IP 13/55 BB/K 4.14 ERA 1.160 WHIP. Doesn't see asimpressive now, but earlier in the season the guy was a K monster. seemed to have 7-8 per game.

Again, DSL stats should be taken with a grain of salt, but it's still fun to have guys to watch at every level. Even then, I have to assume that the guys with good numbers project to have a better chance than those with bad numbers.

Nice summary.

I'm still not sure what to think on Encarnacion. He's too old for the league, but his numbers are solid. Elieser Bonne was too old for the league as well and he jumped straight to Daytona where is putting up decent numbers, but that was a bit of an unusual case.

If the Cubs are sold on Encarnacion, hopefully they'll get him to Arizona in time for the Instructional League in the fall.

I'm pretty sure Carlos A. Rodriguez has 58 K's and 16 BB's, rather than the reverse. Also, he was born in 1995, not 2005. IIRC, Flete is a 2B and Caro is a CF.

This is a great summary. Correct me if I'm wrong(it happens), isn't a new multi-million dollar training facility there helping these kids? It shows what happens when money goes to improvements. This allows the FO to instill the "cub way" into kids at a earlier age.

The 17 year old lefties and Jeffrey Baez are the guys to keep an eye on.

Every time I come across J. Baez in a DSL box score, I become confused for obvious reasons.
