I like Brandon McCarthy if they can get him on a good enough deal, and he seems like an Epstein/Hoyer type of guy right now. With no real top of the rotation starters outside of Grienke, I think the Cubs would be best served by picking up two lesser quality guys with some bounceback potential or upside. Guys like Francisco Liriano, Anibal Sanchez, and Edwin Jackson are going to cost a lot, so they should concentrate on guys like Jeremy Guthrie, Joe Blanton, Aaron Cook, and Colby Lewis. If anyone is looking for a huge splash here, I think they are going to come away disappointed.

Agreed fully. The name that scared me was Sanchez, because if I'm not mistaken, he's an old Theo guy from his days in Boston, right? Maybe part of the Hanley Ramirez deal?
Anyway, I think with so little payroll and so little starting pitching I just thought it'd be interesting to see what they maybe thinking. I'd suspect McCarthy is going to get paid, too.
