Kind of. Maybe. Hopefully.
Soon-to-be Chicago Cubs owner Tom Ricketts is financing his purchase in a number of ways, one of which is soliciting investors to purchase preferred shares. Put your E-Trade account away – the shares will be going for something on the order of $20 to 25 million a pop.
Although that may exclude you and me (damnit), it doesn’t include all Cubs fans.
Tom Ricketts, who is trying to buy the Cubs, has reportedly talked to actor and longtime Cubs fan Bill Murray about investing in the team. Ricketts apparently also has contacted actors Jim Belushi and John Cusack about investing as well. Muskat Ramblings.
Functionally, this means nothing. Even if Murray, for example, bought all of the preferred shares, he’d own approximately 1/9 of the team. Enough to get some sweet ass tickets and a seat at the table, but no real authority.
But that aside, it would just be kind of cool, no?
