Ryne Sandberg... That is all.

Hard to say. Probably not Francona. That's as far as I'm willing to go.

Sandberg will get a look, as will a bunch of guys that were on Epstein's Boston list.

Last year at this time I was hoping it wouldn't be Sandberg, because last year it looked like more doom & gloom in the front office as far as the eye could see. Now, the sun is starting to shine, the light at the end of the tunnel no longer looks like an oncoming train, and I believe the time is right for Ryno.

It is indeed the Perfect Storm!

I would love to see Ryno in the managers seat. My only fear is that the "fickle" portion of the fan base that follows the Cubs will be looking for somebody to put blame on if things are not turned around immediately. It was a blessing not to have Ryno last year as I don't think anybody could have done much with the team that was put on the field. Hopefully people will be patient with whomever is brought in. Let's not have another season of wanting the manager fired in May...lets at least wait to make that decision until the All-Star break.

Brett,
I switched my name and pic yesterday to Hawkeye to create some clarity with other Matt's out there. Is there a reason it didn't change for forum posting?

I think the Cubs should hire all of the BN commenters named Matt to manage the team next year -- there's like 14 of them. We've had the College of Coaches, now we can have the College of Matts.

I'm sold.

Ryno is clearly the sentimental favorite among Cub fans. But what is the objective basis for this? Sure, it sounds great: "can you believe it! Epstein and now Ryno!" By all accounts (and his record) he has been an excellent AAA manager, but front offices seem to have an a cautious aversion toward him so far. It is his perceived "lack of fire"? Is it close identification with a team known every as losers? I am not so sure why Cub fans all want him either. Face it, a big part of our "interaction" with our manager is in post-game press conferences. To me, this is where Piniella showed he had lost it completely. Can you imagine watching Ryno in press conferences being more interesting than paint drying? I will be excited if Theo picks Ryno, because that Theo would want him would allay my concerns. But I don't quite get the hype for Ryno to be our next manager (granted, I am ready to dump Quade any try just about anyone else!)

Yes - because you and philoe/Oswego Chris hate me, and want to create extra work for me. I kid. I'll change the name later today. You have to change the avatar pic in both places (unless you use gravatar.com, in which case, you just need to make sure in your profile that you're set to use your gravatar image - then it's automatic (as it was for me when I changed to this beautiful mug)).

Please, while you're at it, change my name to MichiganGoat.
