I’m not sure why I’m disappointed that big off-season signing Milton Bradley has not worked out so far.
He’s missed games due to suspension. Check. He’s missed a ton of games due to injury. Check. But gets to say he’s not been put on the disabled list? Check. Of course, that might change soon.
We have no right to be surprised. But then again, neither does Cubs General Manager Jim Hendry.
Milton Bradley had to leave Tuesday night’s 6-5, 12-inning loss after coming up lame in the fourth inning. He is questionable for the rest of the series and could be out much longer.
Bradley strained his right calf trying to beat out a grounder to second baseman Kelly Johnson. He was replaced in the bottom of the inning as Johnson took over in center field and Kosuke Fukudome moved to right field.
Although Bradley hasn’t been on the disabled list, the Cubs have gotten little so far out of the three-year, $30 million contract they gave him as a free agent this winter.
Bradley was bothered by a sore left quad in Spring Training and had a right groin strain in April. cubs.com.
At least these injuries are coming early in the year – but there are two problems with that comfort: 1.) The early/late distinction won’t matter if the Cubs keep playing .500 ball, and 2.) How can anyone count on a guy that literally gets hurt monthly on the most routine of plays?
