Thoughts on Brenly not coming back

I tried to post at the end of the article and hit send and it did not post so thought I would do it this way.
Not everyone liked him, my wife felt he talked way too much about himself and it drove her crazy.
Whenever we get a new color analyst I am generally happy. Most anyone on this message board knows a lot about the game of baseball and loves the game as well. Much of what we have learned over the years came from Lou Boudreau, Ron Santo, Steve Stone and Brenly. Each has brought his own perspective and we learned in the process.
At the same time, Stone and Santo because of their longevity became somewhat predictible; in effect they may well have taught us a lot of what they know. I welcomed Keith Moreland and on more than one occasion I have thought to myself that he taught me somthing I had not thought of before.
Whether we liked Brenly or not, we should wish him well and hope that WGN finds someone who is just as qualified to educate and entertain us while watching the game and team we love.
Personally I would prefer it to be someone from outside the organzation. I would love to see a utility player like DeRosa who has played in several organizations who could bring a lot of different perspectives. My guess is Kerry Wood will get the right of first refusal, and I would love to see him in the booth.
Regards,

I'm glad you started this thread. I don't want Stone or Grace. Moreland has all but destroyed my desire to listen to the games so I don't want the same thing to happen to the TV broadcasts. I didn't mind Bob talking about himself. He was always self deprecating and he brought a lot of knowledge to his commentary from playing and managing. His hatred of CB Buckner was always entertaining.

Hi,
Having met Woo Woo on too many occasions I will tell you this. He is in no way a Cub mascot, receives no money or encouragement from the team whatsoever.
In addition, having heard a rumor or two about him, I observed carefully and have seen him play a bit of grab-ass with some of the females dying to have their photo taken with him. He is no longer amusing.
The good news is he too is getting old and we do not have to listen to his incessant hollaring like we used to.
nuff said on that subject.

Brenly, you will be missed
upon hearing I was pissed
Then I thought it was faked
If Stoney replaces I will get baked
Who will replace him some have queried
The one with too many DUI's from being too merry
Everyone wants a familiar face
The search should go no further than Dick Tidrow, our Ace.

Honestly, I'd like to see some no-name come in and educate the fan base rather than listening to an ex-jock talk about "clutch" RBIs, batting average, and other passé crap.

I will really miss Bob, he was one of my favorite color commentators. I will try to keep an open mind for whoever they decide to bring in.

I was extremely upset when Stone was dropped. He was the most honest color man we had. When the Cubs were terrible he let us know his opinion on it. I would be thrilled to have him back, even if he has been a Cub's basher lately.
Agree. And the one thing about Stone was, he would predict what was going to happen ALL the time. It was amazing. He'd say the pitcher is going to throw a curve here, and the batter hits curves fairly well, so he'll probably knock a liner into left, and bam, it would happen exactly the way he said it would.
I've admitted before though, I probably have an inflated perception of him because of how much I enjoyed him and Harry together. We'll never have that type of synergy again. I really think Steve Stone loved working with Harry, and Harry seemed to really love working with Stone, and it showed in their broadcasts.
