Remember that competition last year where fans decided the best names in the minor leagues?
Well, it was awesome, and it’s back. Holy crap there are some beautiful names in minor league baseball.
The format is slightly different, featuring one-off, head-to-head matchups that you vote on, and there’s an overall leaderboard. I preferred the NCAA Tournament style bracket, but, hey, we’ll take what we can get.
You can see the competition here, and start picking out your favorite names. Among the Cubs in the competition: Matt Szczur, Bijan Rademacher, Taiwan Easterling, and 2013 draft pick Giuseppe Pappacio, who currently stands in 9th. Former Cub Felix Pie is in there, I guess in a second go-around. Rock Shoulders is absent from the list, which I assume is because he was last year’s winner.
Indians catching prospect Sicnarf Loopstok is currently in the lead, which, OK. I accept that. But if Diamondbacks pitching prospect Jose Jose doesn’t overtake Sicnarf by the end of this thing, I just don’t know what I will do with myself.
A couple others I really like: Michael Goodnight, Storm Throne (I think that’s a ‘Song of Fire and Ice’ book), and Delta Cleary, Jr. (because someone wanted that name to live on).
Any favorites out there?
