If him and Garza wind up healthy the Cubs could have a formidable top three in the rotation going into 2013
Garza
Samardizja
Haren
Wood
???
If the Cubs can get Marcum or another 2nd tier starter (money shouldn't be an issue with all those awful Hendry deals coming off the books) they could win up being a rotation full of 2-3 starters with Wood being the #5 guy. While an ace is preferable, that balanced rotation could give them one of the top 5 rotation in the NL
and if it doesn't wind up being one of the best rotations and the Cubs are out of contention, he's still significantly more valuable than Marmol as a trade chip.

Winter 2011-2012- Multiple "done deals" for Matt Garza to the Tigers, Blue Jays, and Rangers
April 2012-Jorge Soler, before he was even eligible to sign with anyone. Almost landed them in hot water for negotating with an ineligible player.
July 2012-Dempster
November 2012-Haren/Marmol
Anyone else find this odd?

I agree with you, though - it is odd and a bit frustrating.

Aside from the unavoidable Manny situation, Epstein had a history of running a covert operation in Boston, rarely allowing leaks. Since coming to Chicago, there have been huge leaks of moves that didn't happen:

The common theme is that the leaks have been coming from the other side. Seems leaks from Chicago are few and far between and Chicago media gets their "sources" after the story breaks

But, most of these leaks are coming from the other side or from player tweets. MLB and the inter-nest are two pretty big cultures to get to bend to ones will. But, to some degree, I think the Cubs can. And (slowly, like turning a supertanker) are.
