After the Cubs tender Stewart's contract:
Twins Receive:
3B Ian Stewart
SP Bruce Chen
Royals Receive:
OF Max Kepler (Twins #18 prospect)
SP Dillon Maples (Cubs #12 prospect)
2B/SS Arismendy Alcantara (Cubs prospect)
Cubs Receive:
OF/3B Wil Myers (Royals #1 prospect)
Myers has been dangled for awhile now, I guess KC really needs salary relief that bad.

If we included Garza, I would want OF Byron Buxton (#2 prospect) or a pitching prospect as well. And then sign Anibal Sanchez. I think acquiring Myers opens up all kinds of doors for the Cubs in the short term. He's played 3B/LF/CF. If we trade Soriano, we can sign Ludwick to play LF and trade Barney for Seth Smith to play RF. That'd be a competitive team...
CF DeJesus (L) / Sappelt
2B Keppinger
1B Rizzo (L)
LF Ludwick
SS Castro
RF Smith (L)
3B Myers
C Castillo / Navarro
IF Valbuena (L)
OF Campana (L)
SP Sanchez
SP Samardzija
SP Baker
SP Wood (L)
SP Feldman
RP Chapman
RP Bowden
RP Camp
RP Beliveau (L)
SU Fujikawa
SU Russell (L)
CL Marmol
CF DeJesus (L) / Sappelt
2B Keppinger
1B Rizzo (L)
LF Ludwick
SS Castro
RF Smith (L)

I don't think that we can get Myers. However, how's this:
Royals get
Matt Garza
Chris Rusin or Brooks Raley
Cubs get
Lorenzo Cain
Lamb or Montgomery
A few more minor pieces for back and forth.
Garza's a chip we need to cash in eventually if we don't plan to resign him
Raley/Rusin are depth
Lorenzo Cain is the RH version os everything we can hope for Brett Jackson to become, minus 5-10 HR, assuming ALL goes right with Jackson.
Lamb and Montgomery are each coming off injury issues/bad seasons, I forget which or both, but still have very high ceilings and are 22 and 23.
We then make a trade with Oakland or Atlanta for one of their young pitchers. Start with Barney+Lake or Vitters and go from there.
We also trade Soriano or DeJesus to Philly for Dom Brown.
We sign Sweeny and Pelfrey or Jurrjens
Next thing you know, we have Castro, Rizzo, Cain, whoeevr we get from OAK/ATL and Shark along with Brown, Pelfrey/Jurrjens, and Sweeny, each of whom could be huge, could be OK, or could be garbage, but at a low risk. Lamb/Montgomery slide into our top 10 prospects.
Opening Day:
IB Rizzo
2B Valbuena/Wakins
SS Castro
3B Stewart (re-sign)
LF: Brown
CF: Cain
RF Sweeney
C Castillo
Rotation:Shark, Braves/A's Guy, Baker, Wood(Pelfrey or Jurrjens if we trade Wood), Feldman
Pen: Marmol? Fujikawa, Russell, Camp, Beliveau, Dolis, some guy
Bench: C Navarro, Watkins/Valbuena IF, Sappelt, Campana OF/spare legs, some guy IF
It could contend. If not, it's very low risk, and we do some more trading (Baker, Wood, Feldman, Camp, Navarro, Marmol etc, depending on who's around) come June/July if it epic fails.
The bottom line is that everything that Epstein and Co. are doing seems to be building toward 2015 and beyond, so they may as well go all in toward it.
