These are the moves that could speed up contention not including the draft.

1)trade Garza and Soriano to the Rangers for Mike Olt, Justin Grimm and Robbie Ross.
2. Trade Vogelbach, Soler and a PTBNL to the Rays for David Price.

The line for 2015 would look like
C: Castillo
1B: Rizzo
2B: Watkins
SS: Castro
3B: Olt
LF: BJax
CF: Almora
RF: Baez

I'm not familiar with Grimm or Ross. Can you tell us a little more (too lazy to look them up now)?
If the Cubs could actually get Price for Vogie and Solar, they should do that right this minute.

Ross is a LHP with a very good power sinker that was used in relief by Texas but most experts believe he can start. Grimm is a RHP with #3 or #2 stuff.

I think the Rangers might become pretty desperate to get something done. Losing out in the FA market so far and not making the playoffs last year... their fans aren't too happy right now and I don't think AJ solves much. The big question about your proposal at this point is Garza's health. I don't think anyone touches him until there is a little more certainty about his health. Interesting though.

I'm for hanging on to Soler. The Rays will likely require more than the pkg. you proposed. Price is arguably a top 3 pitcher in all of MLB AND the Rays will require lots of players in return, think what it took to get Garza from them, and Price is more valuable than a Garza.

I agree with The Riot, we need to hold onto Soler. But I would love to get Olt.

Why David price? I know he's really solid starter, but there are others. You have to target two or three and get the best deal for your team.

The lineup looks prettyngood, but certainly no guarantees that any or some of those minor leaguers are destined for the big leagues or will stay when they get here.

We can be competitive in 2014:

CF Nate Schierholtz (L) / Dave Sappelt
2B Javier Baez
1B Anthony Rizzo (L)
RF Jorge Soler
LF Shane Peterson (L)
3B Mike Olt
SS Starlin Castro
C Jarrod Saltalamacchia (S) / Welington Castillo
BN Luis Valbuena (L)
BN Junior Lake
BN Josh Vitters

SP David Price (L)
SP Scott Baker
SP Jeff Samardzija
SP Edwin Jackson
SP Arodys Vizcaino
LR Travis Wood (L)
LR Carlos Villanueva
RP Hector Rondon
RP Lendy Castillo or Rafael Dolis
SU James Russell (L)
SU Shawn Camp
CL Kyuji Fujikawa

Trade Garza for Mike Olt.
Trade Ian Stewart and Darwin Barney for Shane Peterson.
Trade Brett Jackson, Trey McNutt, Austin Reed, and Daniel Vogelbach for David Price.

Garza for Olt + Leury Garcia seems like a fair pkg.Especially if the Cubs use Barney in another trade.

Peterson doesn't project well as his primary position is all over the diamond, that is 1B and all outfield spots, and quite frankly his bat just isn't good enough.

If Tampa is stupid enough to bite on that pkg. by all means we do it.Friedman as evidenced by the Garza deal were offered it, he'd hang up immediately.

It is going to come down to Baez or Solder for Price and if you are complaining about only getting Price for a couple of years. The Cubs will be the big market team that has the most money to spend and will get first shot at him.

And while were making crazy trade ideas.... After we get price let's trade Brett Jackson and a ptbnl for kershaw.

And then we will trade vitters and a ptbnl for Ryan Zimmerman.

This is so easy to build a world series team. What are the cubs waiting for?

Let's also do just a ptbnl for kugel.

There is no way the Cubs can possibly get David Price that easily. Look at what the Royals had to give up for James Shields. They included the best prospect in the game in Wil Myers and they still had to give up more valuable pitching talent. Price to the Cubs cannot be done without depleting the farm.

Here is why you are wrong. Shield had a friendly contract Price will get a big pay day next year and the year after. Yes Price is a better pitcher but there are some serious money issues involved.
