Cubs Trivia:

The Chicago Cubs are one of two remaining charter franchises of the National League. Who is the other?

That was my first thought as well, but no.

One hint, the franchise is not necessarily located in it's original city.

I couldn't stand the suspense and googled the answer. Wow!

I recall reading many times that the first NL game was between the Cubs and the Reds. Just one more thing I thought I knew for sure that wasn't actually true.

It's the Braves when they were in Boston, not sure of the nick-name. Something silly, probably associated with hosiery like a lot of teams in the 1800s.

I could be wrong about this, but I think the Reds are technically a 3rd remaining team. They were charter members of the National League. I think the trivia question implies they were not charter members. But probably because they were banned from the league a couple years (pre 1890?) they are not considered the same team?

Ha! The little font thing is killing me. About half the time my entries are like this. I can go back and edit them sometimes to make them bigger, but other times, i can't. Anyone know what gives?

You are correct, the Reds were charter members but were kicked out after the 1880 season because they sold beer at the stadium. They reformed in a different league the next year, and that's the current Reds franchise.
Note: among the original franchises were two Red Stockings, a White Stockings, a Brown Stockings, an Athletic(singular), the Grays, the Dark Blues, and the Mutuals. They had some really creative people running those teams.

Wow...Kicked out for selling beer? I wonder if they protested or offered to stop selling it. Or just said, hell with you.

From what I read, it's because they wouldn't stop selling beer at the stadium, and wanted to do so on Sundays, which was a no-go with the rest of the league. I personally, can not imagine how Sundays without beer would be, especially at the ballpark.
