Had the two seen each other since the incident? Has the OAM been down on his luck since the incident? Did the OG and the OAM's fortunes diverge due to the hand losing incident?

So, there was no malevolent intent on the part of the OG when the OAM lost his hand -- even though the OG did something heinous (but not negligent, nor accidental) to the OAM to cause the hand loss -- and the means by which the OAM lost his hand *is* relevant to his motivation for the shooting.
Did the OG recognize the OAM before being shot?
Are their current professions relevant? Was the shooting more likely to occur on the subway than anywhere else?

This is where I get confused:
YesDid the OAM lose his arm due to a deliberate act of violence?
Did the shootee do something heinous to the shooter to cause the shooting, besides the hand losing? Yes, in a way
Was there malevolent intent on the part of the OG when he cost the OAM his arm? No
Something's not clicking here...
Was there another party involved in the hand incident? Or the shooting?
