Were these two assholes tied up together or somehow being held hostage and the OAM lost a coin flip about whose arm was getting cut off to free each other?

Is the location of the arm-removal relevant?
If we knew more about jobs/preferences/wives/whatever about the men, individually (as opposed to their connection to each other), would that help us along?
