Mike Carp?

Mike Carp was DFA'd today by Seattle to make room for Saunders. His numbers are nothing sexy at all in the majors, but nobody hitting half their games in Safeco have put up good numbers recently (though his home/road splits are similar), but he's put up good numbers consistently in the minors and hasn't really had a chance to get regular playing time. I think the Cubs should at least explore a trade with him, maybe Seattle would trade him for Campana or another guy getting bumped if Lillibridge or Bougosevic (I probably butchered that) play well enough to get a roster spot. I don't know how the rules are in regards to acquiring a player who was DFA'd and keeping them off the 40 man roster (like when they're acquired off waivers), but he would provide some great insurance in the case that Soriano gets traded or (god forbid) Rizzo gets hurt.

Mark "Birdman" Fidrych would be an obvious choice (except for the Mark part(it didn't stop The Weather Channel though)).
I'm all for guys named Mike with the last name of a fish.

Is a Fidrych a type of fish?

Well, birds eat fish. (I don't know how it got in my head about birds.)

doubtful the Cubs would make that deal if they have to give him a 40 man spot, they'd probably rather have Sappelt. They really need a backup 1B to replace LaHair unless they feel comfortable that Stewart or Vitters could play there.
I feel like Stewart would be the best option to spot fill in at first. Rizzo should be very durable throughout the year, so injury permitting shouldn't need a heavy hitter to back him up.
