So two or three times in the last week, the number of guests visiting the Message Board ("most online" at the bottom of the index page) has spiked -- through the roof. Yesterday afternoon there were 272 folks online at 1:43 PM. A few days ago another surge was seen at ~225, also at mid-day.

What gives?

I remember visitor spikes have occurred when Ace has tweeted something w/a direct link to the Message Board (usually a gameday thread), but those have been ~70, 80 guests. Nothing like this.

And, yeah, most of those are probably robots combing the site for your social security number, sure. But it seems ... odd.

Anyone have any thoughts?

Yeah, it's mostly spiders crawling - for some reason, those are tracked on the Board as people online, but they aren't actual real visits. As for why they spike at random times, I actually have no idea. It's weird, and kind of annoying.

Or they're all different accounts used by Dave Sappelt or Tony Campana's girlfriend looking for people saying bad things about them.

Basically, the nations with massive nuclear stockpiles are now trying to build massive stockpiles of nerds and e-ological weaponry to threaten to use against each other while each other know that they will never use it on the other because if China or the US fall it will suck the other two in with them so what will happen is shadowy terrorist groups will get the trickle downs from Russia that they will use against the US and China.
