When today’s interleague, cross-town match-up between the Cubs and White Sox was originally rained out, the universe was quite different.
At that time, June 16, the Cubs and Sox were both a few games out of first place in their respective Central divisions, but hope for 2009 remained at a high, and thoughts of 2010 remained distant. Within a few weeks, each team would taste first place.
Flash forward to today, and hopes have hit a nadir, and thoughts of 2010 are ever present. In their last 25 games, the Cubs have won nine, and the Sox just eight. This season, like the Cubs-Sox game that wasn’t, appears to have been washed away.
I guess it’s not possible to truly “make up” a game.
