We’ve all noticed the recent trend of beards in baseball lately, yes? I, for one, am all aboard. If I could grow a better beard*, I would and I’d be proud of it. Not all beards are created equal, though, and some look better than others.
Still, some other beards look down right historic, positively Civil War-ean even. That’s why Shane Tourtellotte of Hardball Times examined many of the famous beards from 2015 and assigned their Civil War Era beard-elganger (doppel-bearder?).
Some comparisons are inspiring and intimidating (Jake Arrieta’s: Thomas “Stonewall” Jackson); while other’s are…less so (Kyle Schwarber: Generic Union Soldier or “often drunk frat boy”). This is all in good fun and makes for an interesting read. So, go check it out.
*Did Lincoln have a beard? I think I’d be Lincoln.
